Maryville, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team scored three runs early, but the Northwest Missouri Bearcats scored four unanswered to take the series finale, 4-3 today in Maryville.
Southern (20-18, 12-12 MIAA) got a pair of RBIs from Alec Alvarez in the game. Richie Gorski drove in a run and scored once, while Alvarez, Gorski, Todd Hinkley, Brett Graham and Dave Prost had a hit each.
Sean Goostree started and went five and two thirds, allowing four runs, while striking out four and walking one. His record fell to 2-2 on the season. Colin Chandler threw the final two and a third for the Lions, striking out three and allowing just one hit.
Northwest (24-10, 13-8 MIAA) got a 3-3 day at the plate from Kolby Greenslade. Brad Roberts started and went six innings to move to 5-4 on the season.
Southern scored three in the second, started off with an RBI double from Gorski to score Graham. Alvarez then added a two-run single to score Million and Gorski to put the Lions up 3-0 after two.
Northwest added a run in the third and fifth and two in the fifth to go ahead.
The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday evening as Southern plays host to Pittsburg State. First pitch from Warren Turner Field is slated for 5 pm.
