Hays, Kan. - The Missouri Southern Men's Golf team could not overcome a poor first round as they finished the Tiger Classic in tenth place Wednesday afternoon at Smoky Hill Country Club.
Southern shot the fourth lowest team score of the final round but were unable to overcome the poor opening round en route to the tenth place finish. Junior Conner Neil shot the third best individual score of the final round with a 3-over 73 to climb into a tie for 23rd. Neil led the Lions with a three round total of 228 followed by sophomore Tripper Jensen with a 231. Senior Taylor Lansford finished four strokes behind Jensen with a 235 and was followed by freshman Chase Rogers with a 239 and junior Carter Towey with a 241.
Central Missouri won the MIAA points event with a team total of 852. Lindenwood took second place with an 881 followed by Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State tied at 896 and Missouri Western rounded out the top five with a 905. Nebraska-Kearney finished in sixth at 911 followed by Southwest Baptist at 917, Washburn at 918, the hosts Fort Hays State Tigers at 927, Southern at 931, and Lincoln rounded out the team scores with a 947. After setting the course record with a second round of 61, UCM's Alex Springer held on for the individual medalist honors with a 208.
Southern will be back in action at the MIAA Championships next Monday thru Wednesday at the Sycamore Ridge Golf Club in Spring Hill, Kansas.
