MSSU men's track and field sets two records at Bolivar

Bolivar, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's track and field team picked up two new school records and nine event wins as the Lions took part in the SBU Bearcat Invite today in Bolivar.

Daniel Hernandez broke a record in the javelin, while Jordyn Manier broke a record in the long jump and both won their particular events.

Hernandez hit an NCAA AQ in the javelin with a mark of 229-03, breaking the record set by Mika Alahaivala in 2005. Garrett Austin finished eighth in the event.

Manier hit a provisional distance of 24-11.25 in the long jump, breaking a record set by Desmond Williams last season. Brendan Watkins placed eighth in the event, while Chance Johnson and Kennan Harrison placed 12th and 13th.

Harrison won the triple jump in a mark of 49-00.25, while Watkins was sixth. Bryan Burns won the shot put with a provisional mark of 57-04.25, while he was second in the discus in a provisional distance of 170 feet. Burns also placed sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 175-10, while Junior Joseph was ninth.

Vincent Kiprop placed first in the1,500m with a provisional time of 3:50.17, while Nickson Kiptoo was third and Tyler Rush placed 10th. Jared Halton, Josh Webb and Cody Berry placed 11th through 13th.

Keson Payton and Dausen Gourley placed second and third in the 100m dash, while Thomas Hawkins was fifth in the 200m. Hawkins also placed fourth in the 400m dash.

Victor Encarnacion and Luis Suaste placed 10th and 13th in the 800m run. Mike Shanahan was second in the 3k, while Haltom, Berry and Webb placed third, fourth and sixth, respectively.

Matt Willis was fifth in the 110m hurdles, while winning the 400m hurdles in a time of 53.78. The 400m relay team of Warren Leak, Payton, Watkins and Gourley was first in a time of 41.97, while Cody Vogt won the high jump in a provisional height of 6-08.75. Chance Johnson was ninth in the high jump. Cortland Potter and Zach Wuest were fifth and sixth in the pole vault.

Hernandez's javelin throw ranks third-best in Division II this year, while Manier is number one in the long jump.
The Lions will be in action next weekend with split action at both the Mount Sac Relays and Pittsburg State.
