New Orleans, La. -- Missouri Southern sophomore vaulter Emily Presley has been named the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Division II Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the organization announced today.
Presley, a native of St. Clair, Mo., was also named the MIAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week this week. Presley nearly tied the Division II all-time record in the pole vault at Missouri S&T this weekend in the Dewey Allgood Invitational. Presley cleared an NCAA AQ height of 14-05.25 to increase her school record and national lead in the event.
The height is tied for the third-highest all-time in Division II and is seventh-best this year in the NCAA in all divisions. The sophomore had three good attempts at 14-09, which would have tied the NCAA Division II record, but could not clear the bar.
The Lions will be in action next Friday as Southern plays host to the Bill Williams/Bob Laptad Invitational inside Fred G. Hughes Stadium.
