Emporia, Kan. -- Bryan Burns had a pair of provisional performances and Daniel Hernandez punched his ticket to nationals as the Missouri Southern men's track and field team competed at the Emporia State Relays Saturday.
Hernandez won the javelin with an NCAA Automatic Qualifying mark of 220-02, which currently sits number four nationally in the event. Garrett Austin was fifth in a distance of 185-04 in the event.
Burns had three top-ten performances in the field, including provisional marks in the discus and hammer throw. He finished fifth with a provisional mark of 170-00 in the discus, while placing fifth in the hammer in a provisional distance of 183-11. In the shot put, Burns placed ninth with a distance of 50-07.25.
Junior Joseph and Austin placed 10th and 12th, respectively in the hammer, hitting distances of 163-08 and 158-09, respectively.
In other action. Warren Leak and Keson Payton placed 18th and 20th in the 100m dash, while Dausen Gorely was 25th in the 200m. Payton placed 28th in the 200m, while Leak was 31st. Cody Vogt, Chance Johnson and Mike Watson placed 50th, 52nd and 54th in the 200m, while Dean Howard, Zach Wuest and Cortland Potter placed 59th, 61st and 62nd.
Thomas Hawkins was ninth in the 400m dash in a time of 49.21, while Peyton Powell and Kyle Parr placed 40th and 43rd, respectively. Nickson Kiptoo was 26th in the 800m, while Victor Encarnacion and Luis Suaste placed 33rd and 34th in the event.
Kiptoo was 16th in the 1,500m with a time of 4:05.75, while Parr was 45th in the 110m hurdles. Matt Willis was fifth int he 400m hurdles in a time of 54.13, while the 4x100m relay team placed 8th in a time of 42.86.
Vogt was sixth in the high jump with a height of 6-04.75, while Wuest, Potter and Howard placed sixth and tenth, respectively in the pole vault.
Jordyn Manier placed third in the long jump in a distance of 23-07.50, while Johnson and Brendan Watkins placed 19th and 21st, respectively. Watson and Parr placed 29th and 32nd in the long jump.
Kennan Harrison placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 47-07.25, while Watkins placed 10th.
The Lions will be back in action next weekend competing at the Southwest Baptist Bearcat Invitational.
