(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team had a 6-3 lead early on, but a five-run inning by visiting Central Missouri helped lead the Mules to a series-opening 11-8 win Thursday at Warren Turner Field in Joplin.

The Lions (20-20, 12-14 MIAA) got a three-RBI night from Mike Million as he went 2-3 at the plate with a home run and two runs scored. Cory Canterbury went 2-5 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Alec Alvarez, Max Hogan, and Richie Gorski drove in a run each. Dave Prost went 2-3 with two runs scored, while Alvarez and Hogan had a hit each.

Seth Mesey started and went three and a third of an inning and was saddled with the loss to move to 2-3 on the season. Hayden Brauser, Zach Litchen, Trenton Moeller, Will Bausinger and Brandon Saddler threw in relief.

The Mules (24-11, 15-8 MIAA) got two hits from five different individuals with Justin Graff-Roe driving in three. Ross Juliana (2-0) got the win in relief, while JJ Benes picked up his second save of the year.

Central scored two in the top of the first and the Lions answered back with a sacrifice fly from Gorski to cut the lead in half after one. Another run from the Mules in the second gave Central a 3-1 lead before two runs from the Lions off of RBIs from Hogan and Alvarez in the second tied it up.

Southern scored three in the third to go up 6-3 on a two-run RBI from Canterbury and an RBI single from Million.

The Mules broke open the game with five in the fourth and a run in the fifth to go up 9-6 before scoring two more in the top of the eighth to lead 11-6. Million's third homer of the year got two more runs back for the Lions, but Southern couldn't complete the comeback.

The two teams will be back at it today with a 3 pm first pitch from Turner Field.
