MSSU baseball falls to Central Missouri 12-2

Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team couldn't get the bats going today and the Lions fell 12-2 in eight innings to visiting Central Missouri.

Southern (20-21, 12-15 MIAA) got a 2-4 performance at the plate from Alec Alvarez, while Max Hogan had an RBI and a run scored, while being hit by a pitch twice. Brett Graham had a hit, while Richie Gorski scored a run and Mike Million added an RBI.

Dan Hawk started and went four innings, allowing five runs, while striking out three batters and moving to 1-4 on the season with the loss. Brandon Saddler, Will Bausinger, Hayden Brauser, Christian Goshen and Trenton Moeller threw in relief.

Central Missouri (25-11, 16-8 MIAA) got three hits from Travis Able and two each from six others. Steven D'Amico started and went seven to move to 5-1 on the season.

Central scored a run in the first and two in the second to go up 3-0 before an RBI from Hogan, scoring Gorski put the Lions on the board.

The Mules added two in the fourth and one in the sixth, before scoring two in the seventh and four in the eighth. Million added an RBI in the eighth for the Lions, but it wasn't enough.

The two teams will be back in action tomorrow afternoon to conclude the series. First pitch from Warren Turner Field is slated for 1 pm.
