Trip to NCAA regional finals on line as MSSU plays Southeastern Oklahoma State today

The Missouri Southern men's basketball team will take on Southeastern Oklahoma State with a trip to the regional finals on the line as the Lions battle the Savage Storm in the round of 32 Saturday from Maryville.

The Series


These two teams have only met three times in the past with the Lions winning two games, including the last two in a row. Southeastern took the first-ever meeting in a tournament at Midwestern State, 72-63. The Lions won the second meeting in a double-overtime thriller in Durant, 77-71 and the Lions took the last meeting 66-49 at home. The last two games took place in a home-and-home series played in the 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons. The Lions are 1-0 at home, 1-0 in Durant and 0-1 in neutral site games.

MIAA Team Stat Leaders

The Lions, as a team, lead the MIAA in three point attempts, defensive rebounds, free throw attempts, free throws made, scoring and total rebounds.

MIAA Individual Stat Leaders

Cam Martin leads the MIAA in field goal percentage, double-double's, free throw attempts and free throws made. Elyjah Clark leads the MIAA in three point attempts, minutes per game and total minutes.

All-MIAA

Four Lions earned All-MIAA status this year as Cam Martin led the way with a first-team selection. Elyjah Clark was a third-team pick, while Kinzer Lambert and Braelon Walker earned honorable mention.

Streak Stopper

Coming into the season Elyjah Clark had made a three pointer in 47-straight games, dating back to his freshman season. Clark, however, missed out on a three in the first game of the year, but has made a three in each game since, taking his current streak to 30.

Cam You Score A Lot?


Cam Martin tied a MSSU single-game record with 49 points at Minnesota State. The mark tied Carl Tyler from 1984. Coincidently, in his second game as a Lion, former guard CJ Carr scored 47 points against the same Minnesota State team two years ago. Martin nearly set the NCAA Tournament scoring record against Washburn as he finished with 46 points, eight off the record of 54.

Cam You Score Alot II

Cam Martin has put himself amongst the Missouri Southern single-season scoring leaders as the sophomore now ranks tied for fourth all-time in a single season with 666 points and his 22.2 per game scoring average is tied for 4th as well.

Cam Martin had a game to remember against Washburn in the NCAA Tournament. He tied a Southern single-game record with nine 3's. He scored 46 points, three off his own shared MSSU single-game record and that proved to be 10th-best all-time in a single NCAA Division II Tournament game.

The Century Mark


Jeff Boshcee won his 100th career game at Missouri Southern against Washburn in the NCAA Tournament. He became the quickest to 100 wins in MSSU history. The previous mark was Frank Davis who reached 100 wins in 161 games. Boschee did it in 152 games.








Three-Point Streak

The Lions failed to make a three-pointer at Arkansas Tech in their match-up in 2012-13. It was the first time in 403 games that Southern had failed to hit a three pointer, dating back to Jan. 20, 1999 against Missouri S&T. The Lions have had a three in 204-straight games since Arkansas Tech in 2012-13.

Sharp Shooting Lions


Southern has broken two records this year in regards to three-point shooting as the Lions have destroyed two records that were set by last year's squad. Southern has set the record for single-season three pointers made (339) and three pointers per game (10.9).

Hard Working Man


Elyjah Clark leads the MIAA in minutes per game and total minutes.

Three's Company


The Lions broke the MSSU single-game 3-point record with 22 3's against Washburn in the NCAA Tournament. It broke the record set against Randall last year as Southern made 20 three pointers against the Saints. The 22 3's was one three-pointer off of the NCAA Tournament record of 23 in a single-game.

Corndogs Jackie

Southern is averaging 87 points per game this season and the Lions have topped the century mark seven times.

Record Against The Regional Field


The Lions are 2-2 this season with teams in the NCAA Central Region Tournament.

All-Time NCAA Tournament


The Lions are 6-7 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. Southern has split its last four games in NCAA Tournament action.

Bevo Francis Award Watchlist

Sophomore Cam Martin has been named to the Small College Basketball Bevo Francis Award Watchlist. The award is for the Division II Player of the Year. He is one of 25 players still left vying for the yearly award.

Record-Breaking Sniper

Junior Elyjah Clark already has the Missouri Southern single-season record for three pointers with 110. Clark broke the career record against Fort Hays State last weekend and has 288 career three pointers now as a junior. With one season left to play, Clark now can target the MIAA record of 370.

Reachin' A Grand


Elyjah Clark went over 1,000 points in his career with 18 points against Minnesota-Crookston in the Puerto Rico Tournament. He currently has 1,394 in his career and is the 22nd person in MSSU history to crack the 1,000 point plateau. Clark has moved into 10th place all-time, passing Terry Shumpert against Washburn. Next up is Matt Olson with 1,404 points 9th place.

Elyjah For Three

Clark has the top-two single-season three-point totals in MSSU history and his 280 threes made in his two-plus year career rank first. His career three-point percentage of .401 is tied for third-best all-time, while he also tied the single-game record for three's made with nine. He has the season and career record for three pointers per game, while also holding the MSSU season and career record for consecutive games with a three (47).

Up Next

With a win, Southern will play in the regional championship on Tuesday, March 19 at 7 pm against the winner of Northwest Missouri and Southern Nazarene.
