Missouri Southern freshman thrower Elizabeth Pomatto has been named the MIAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced today.
Pomatto, a freshman from Osawatomie, Kan., made a splash in her first collegiate action of her career, setting a Missouri Southern javelin record, besting the old mark by more than four meters.
She won the event at Emporia State's Spring Invitational last weekend with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 50.63 meters, which is the top mark in Division II by more than a meter and is ninth-best in all divisions so far this season.
