The Missouri Southern men's and women's indoor track and field teams will be in action this weekend as the Lions compete at the 2019 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Pittsburg State University at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
The event will take place on Friday and Saturday this week, March 8-9.
The 4th-ranked women have qualified eight individuals in nine events for this year's Championships. The No. 4 ranking is the highest the program has ever been ranked.
The Southern men have qualified three individuals in three events.
Brendan Watkins will start it off for the Lions competing in the long jump on Friday at 2 pm. Morgan Smith and Jasmine Deckard then get things going with the prelims of the 60m hurdles (2:30 pm) and the 60m dash (3 pm), while Deckard will compete in the prelims of the 200m dash at 5:15 pm. Gidieon Kimutai will close out competition for the Lions on day one with the 5k beginning at 6:15 pm.
Day two will start with Claire Luallen in the pentathlon. Luallen's events will begin at 10 am with the 60m hurdles and conclude approximately at 3 pm with the 800m.
Desirea Buerge and Payton Roberts will both compete in the shot put at 2:30 pm, while Watkins and Adrain Broadus will compete in the triple jump beginning at 3:05 pm.
A trio of Lions: Elena Bisotto, Lauren Sutherland and Samantha Petry will compete in the pole vault at 4 pm, while Smith and Deckard close things out with the finals of their events, should they qualify. Smith would run in the finals of the 60m hurdles at 5 pm, while Deckard will run in the finals of the 60m at 5:20 pm and the 200m at 6:45 pm.
