Missouri Southern junior Calem Nutting hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth as the Lions completed the sweep of Washburn, winning 3-2 Sunday on Warren Turner Field.
The Lions (15-5, 7-2 MIAA) got a strong start from Will Bausinger on the hill as the junior went eight innings, striking out 12 and walking just 1, while allowing only 2 hits and two unearned runs. Bradly Hershey threw a perfect ninth, striking out a runner to move his record to 4-0 on the season with the win.
Nutting went 3-for-4 in the game with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI. Davin Gummere and Dexter Swims had two hits each, while Denver Coffee added a hit and Dan Lenz drove in a run. Freddie Landers scored a run and had a walk.
Washburn (8-10, 3-6 MIAA) got a hit each from Lane Harvey and Kolton Meyer.
The Ichabods started the scoring with two unearned runs in the sixth inning to go up 2-0.
The Lions answered with a pair of runs in the seventh to tie it up. Landers scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead in half and Lenz drove home Nutting on a fielder's choice.
Nutting led off the ninth and took a 2-2 pitch to right center just under the scoreboard for the game-winner.
The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon as the Lions play host to Drury. First-pitch from Turner Field is slated for 3 pm.
