MSSU softball drops doubleheader to Central Missouri

The Missouri Southern softball team fell to Central Missouri in game one (5-3) and again in game two (2-0) inside the Pat Lipira Softball Complex Wednesday afternoon.

Game One 

The Lions (9-12, 2-6 MIAA) took the lead in the fifth after falling behind two nothing through four innings of play.

It started when Emily Harris came in as a pinch hitter and delivered a single up the middle to score Josie Tofpi from second to cut the Jennies' lead to one (2-1). Then in the fifth, with the bases loaded , Tofpi singled in the tying run and Ashley Caldarella launched the ball to left field to allow Makalia Leonhart to score the go-ahead run to close out the fifth up 3-2. 








UCM (12-8, 3-1 MIAA) answered with two runs in the sixth and tacked on another in the seventh to take game one by a final score of 5-3.

Leonhart, Tofpi, and Elizabeth Windsor all recorded two hits to lead the Lions in the loss. 

Game Two 

UCM scored two runs in the first and never looked back, going on to take game two by the score 2-0. 0

Windsor led MSSU with a 2-for-3 line at the plate while freshman Sidnie Hurst and Tori Frazier each added a hit as well. Sophomore pitcher Abby Atkin went the distance, registering seven innings of two runs on seven hits and striking out seven in the loss.

Next Up 

Southern hits the road for its final non-conference tournament of the season in St. Joseph, Missouri against teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) leading off with two games on Friday versus Northern State at 4:00 pm and Winona State at 6:00 pm.
