The Missouri Southern men's and women's golf teams will both be in action this week as the Lions travel to Owasso, Okla. to compete in the Hillcat Classic, hosted by Rogers State at Bailey's Ranch Golf Club.
The men are coming off a seventh-place finish at their spring season opener last week at Southern Arkansas. This will be the first spring event for the women.
Traveling for the men will be Adam Vining, Taylor Haltom, Jeremy Dunham, Grant Sikes and Logan Greer. The women will take Kylie Carnes, Maggie Moore, Elizabeth Poe and Taylor Boyett.
The teams will also be wearing black ribbons on their hats to honor the victims in the terrorist attacks in Christchurch New Zealand last week. Forty-nine people were killed and dozens more were injured and Christchurch is the hometown of Lions' senior Adam Vining.
The men will play 36 holes on day one and 18 on day two, while the women will play 18 holes on each day.
Joining the Lions at the tournament on the men's side will be Arkansas-Fort Smith, Christian Brothers, Fort Hays, Fort Lewis, Lubbock Christian, Rogers State, St. Edward's, Texas A&M Commerce, Texas A&M International and Texas - Permian Basin.
On the women's side, Angelo State, Arkansas-Fort Smith, Christian Brothers, Fort Lewis, Lubbock Christian, Newman, Oklahoma Christian, Rogers State, Texas A&M Commerce, Texas A&M International and Texas - Permian Basin will join the Lions at the tournament.
"This is our first time to Bailey's Ranch," said head coach Mike Wheeler. "Tristan (Haltom) and Allison (Cunningham) are both injured, but we're looking forward to better weather than last week. We're all grieving the tragedy with Adam Vining and this is the least we can do."
Live results for each tournament will be available at the links above.
