Pittsburg, Kan. -- The 4th-ranked Missouri Southern women's track and field team sent finalists through to three sprint events and Gidieon Kimutai picked up All-American honors as the Lions competed in day one of the 2019 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Pittsburg State University at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
Kimuati finished fourth in the 5k with a time of 14:10.44 to earn five points for the men and pick up All-American honors. It's his second All-American honor this year after picking up honrs in the cross country season. Brendan Watkins finished 12th in the long jump with a leap of 7.24m.
On the women's side, Morgan Smith qualified fourth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.52. Jasmine Deckard qualified second in the 60m dash and third in the 200m dash. Her time of 7.44 in the 60m prelims breaks her own school record of 7.50, while her time of 23.98 in the 200m also breaks her own record, both set at the 2019 MIAA Indoor Championships.
Day two will start tomorrow with Claire Luallen in the pentathlon. Luallen's events will begin at 10 am with the 60m hurdles and conclude approximately at 3 pm with the 800m.
Desirea Buerge and Payton Roberts will both compete in the shot put at 2:30 pm, while Watkins and Adrain Broadus will compete in the triple jump beginning at 3:05 pm.
A trio of Lions: Elena Bisotto, Lauren Sutherland and Samantha Petry will compete in the pole vault at 4 pm, while Smith and Deckard close things out with the finals of their events. Smith will run in the finals of the 60m hurdles at 5 pm, while Deckard will run in the finals of the 60m at 5:20 pm and the 200m at 6:45 pm.
