Missouri Southern sophomore Cam Martin has been named a first-team All-Region selection by the Conference Commissioners Association.
The award is voted voted upon by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from the region. The Central Region consists of 42 men's basketball teams from the Northern Sun (16 teams), Mid-America (14 teams) and Great American (12 teams) conferences.
Along with this award, Martin has also been advanced to the next round of the Bevo Francis Division II Player of the Year Award as he is now one of just 25 players still in contention for that honor. The finalists for the Bevo Francis Award will be announced on April 6 with the award being handed out on April 8.
This year, Martin was a first-team All-MIAA selection and leads the MIAA in defensive rebounds, field goal percentage, free throw attempts and free throws made, double-double's and ranks second in rebounding. He ranks third in scoring and fourth in total points.
Martin ranks in the top ten nationally in four different categories, while ranking in the top-25 in nine different categories. Earlier in the season, he tied the MSSU school record for points in a game with 49 against Minnesota State and has scored in double-figures in every game this season with 18 double-double's.
Martin was one of two MIAA players to be named first-team and four players named on both the first and second-teams. He is one of three players left on the Bevo Francis watch list, joining Joey Witthus and Trevor Hudgins of Northwest Missouri.
Martin and the Lions will be in action tomorrow as Southern opens the 2019 NCAA Division II Basketball Tournament with a game against Washburn at noon from Northwest Missouri State University.
