MSSU women pick up two school records at Emporia State track meet

Emporia, Kan. - The Missouri Southern women's track and field team picked up two school records today as the Lions competed at the LaQuinta Inn ESU Spring Twilight.

Desirea Buerge (discus) and Elizabeth Pomatto (javelin) both took out school records and automatically qualified for the 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships today.

Buerge finished third, but was the top Division II qualifier, as she hit a mark of 55.02m, breaking her own school record by nearly three meters. Payton Roberts finished fourth in the event with an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark of 47.39m and Kirsten Leisinger hit an NCAA Provisional mark as well, finishing eighth with a mark of 45.94. Alexandra Rodriguez was 15th at 37.72m.








Pomatto destroyed the previous javelin record by more than four meters as she won the event with a mark of 50.63m that sits as the top mark in Division II at this point in the season. Morgan Ash finished third with an NCAA Provisional Mark of 45.59m, while Alexis Kuehl was fourth with a provisional mark of 43.64m.

Leisinger was third in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.79m, while Rodriguez was sixth at 46.22m.

The Lions finished 7th in the team scoring with 42 team points.

The Lions will be in action next weekend with events at Washington University and Emporia State.
