MSSU men to open NCAA tournament play against Washburn

Indianapolis, Ind. -- The Missouri Southern men's basketball team is dancing as the Lions have received an at-large bid to the 2019 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament and will face Washburn which will be hosted by Northwest Missouri State next weekend. Southern will take on Washburn at noon on March 16.

The Lions will be making their seventh appearance in the NCAA Tournament and second in a row. It is the third appearance in the last five years for the Lions. The tournament will take place starting on Saturday, March 16 and will play games on Sunday and Tuesday.

This year, the Lions and Washburn met once, with Southern coming away with an 89-86 win at home.








Last season, the Lions faced off with Southwest Minnesota State and just missed out on a win, falling 81-77. The Lions are 5-5 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.

Northwest Missouri will host and will play the No. 8 seed Minnesota State. St. Cloud State is the No. 4 seed and will face No. 5 Southern Nazarene, while No. 2 Northern State will take on No. 7 Southeastern Oklahoma. The No. 3 seed Washburn will take on the No. 6 seed Lions.

Saturday, March 16
Noon: No. 3 Washburn vs. No. 6 Missouri Southern (Session 1)
2:30 p.m.: No. 2 Northern State vs. No. 7 Southeastern Oklahoma State (Session 1)

6 p.m.: No. 1 Northwest Missouri vs. No. 8 Minnesota State, Mankato (Session 2)
8:30 p.m.: No. 4 St. Cloud State vs. No. 5 Southern Nazarene (Session 2)

Sunday, March 17
5 p.m.: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2
7:30 p.m.: Winner Game 3 vs. Winner Game 4

Tuesday, March 18
7 p.m.: Regional Championship Game
