The Missouri Southern men's and women's track and field programs were represented well on both the All-Region and All-American teams as announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
A total of 11 performances earned All-Region honors, while the Lions had nine first and second-team All-American honors at this past weekend's NCAA Division II National Championships.
Earning All-Region honors for the men was Gidieon Kimutai in the 5k. On the women's side, Elena Bisotto was one of three Lions in the pole vault to earn All-Region honors as Samantha Petry and Lauren Sutherland also earned the award. Desirea Buerge and Payton Roberts earned All-Region honors in the shot putt, while Jasmine Deckard picked up honors in the 60m and 200m.
Claire Luallen earned All-Region honors in the pentathlon and long jump, while Morgan Smith picked up honors in the 60m hurdles.
At the national meet, Adrain Broadus (triple jump) and Gidieon Kimutai (5k) earned first-team All-American honors, while Brendan Watkins picked up second-team honors in the long jump.
Deckard picked up first-team All-American honors in the 60m and the 200m, while Payton Roberts picked up first-team honors in the shot put. Morgan Smith also picked up first-team honors in the 60m hurdles. Buerge picked up second-team honors in the shot put, while Luallen picked up second-team honors in the pentathlon.
The Lions will open up the outdoor season next weekend as Southern travels to Emporia State on March 23.
