MSSU baseball home series against Washburn begins Friday

The Missouri Southern baseball team will get back into MIAA play this weekend as the Lions play host to Washburn for a three-game set at Warren Turner Field beginning Friday night.

The two teams will play a single game on Friday at 5 pm with games on Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm each day. The two teams met earlier in the season in non-conference play with Will Bausinger throwing a perfect game against the Ichabods, winning 9-0.

The Lions (12-5, 4-2 MIAA) come into the game after a mid-week win over Missouri S&T. Southern is hitting .279 as a team and carries a 3.34 ERA. Dexter Swims leads the way offensively with a .367 average, while Bausinger is 3-1 with a 1.29 ERA on the season. Cam Bednar has three saves on the year, while Zach Parish has a team-high 41 strikeouts. The Lions' pitchers are holding opponents to a .223 batting average and have struck out 183 batters on the season.








Southern ranks fifth nationally in strikeout to walk ratio, while ranking 18th in strikeouts per nine innings and 14th in WHIP. The team ranks 11th nationally in fielding, while leading the MIAA in doubles, strikeout to walk ratio and fewest walks per nine innings.

Individually, Davin Gummere ranks sixth nationally and leads the MIAA in walks, while Parish and Zach Shoemaker rank fourth nationally and lead the MIAA in games started. Bednar is tenth in appearance, while ranking 14th in saves. Freddie Landers ranks 13th nationally in hit by pitch, while Bausinger is 16th in wins.

Washburn (8-7, 3-3 MIAA) is hitting .239 as a team and carry a 3.74 team ERA. Brady Hoover and Xavier DeLeon are hitting above .300 with Hoover carrying a .309 average and DeLeon sporting a .302 mark. Hoover leads the team with four home runs and 15 RBIs. On the mound, Nick Sloan is 3-0 with a 0.92 ERA in four appearances. Josh Ramirez is 2-1 with a 3.18 ERA.
