Southern volleyball defeats Colorado Christian, loses to Dallas Baptist

Dallas, Texas - The Missouri Southern volleyball team played two more five-set matches and the Lions split the pair, winning against Colorado Christian, but falling to host Dallas Baptist in day one of the DBU Patriot Classic.

In the first match of the day, the Lions (5-2) played in their third-straight five-set match and came away with the thriller of a win over Colorado Christian (2-3). Individual set scores were 17-25, 25-23, 26-28, 25-23 and 15-11.

Janelle Brehm led the way for the Lions as she had 22 kills and 11 digs in the match. Morgan Nash had a double-double of her own with 49 assists and 14 digs, while Emalee Lowe pulled home 26 digs of her own. Brooklynn McCain had 12 digs in the match.

CCU had three in double-figure digs, led by 24 from Cali Bahnsen.








In the second match of the day, the Lions took two of the first three sets, but Dallas Baptist (4-3) rallied to win the final two and the match. Individual set scores were 21-25, 25-18, 25-18, 21-25 and 10-15.

Down 19-10 at one point in the third set, the Lions fought back to nearly tie the set getting as close as 21-20, but the Patriots closed out the set.

The fifth set saw the Patriots hit eight first, leading 8-5 at the turn and 12-6 at one point, and despite the Lions fighting back to within three (12-9), DBU pulled out the set and the match.

Southern will be back in action tomorrow as the Lions will take on Midwestern State at 11 am and Henderson State at 3 pm.
