The Missouri Southern volleyball team will head south as the Lions will travel to Dallas this weekend to compete in the DBU Patriot Classic, hosted by Dallas Baptist University.
The Lions will take on Colorado Christian University at 11 am on Friday and DBU later that night at 7 pm. On day two, Southern takes on Midwestern State at 11 am and then Henderson State at 3 pm.
Southern comes into the event a 4-1 overall after a mid-week win at home over Drury where the Lions took out the Panthers in a five-set thriller. The Lions went 3-1 last weekend at their own Southern Invite where they defeated Black Hills State, Colorado State - Pueblo and Cameron, but fell in a five-set match with Southwestern Oklahoma.
The Lions rank second nationally in total digs, kills and attacks, while ranking fourth in assists and seventh in blocks. Janelle Brehm leads Division II in total attacks, while ranking second in total kills and eighth in attacks per set. Morgan Nash ranks second nationally in triple doubles, while Alicia Pickett ranks ninth in total blocks.
Colorado Christian comes in with a 2-2 overall record where they picked up a pair of five-set wins at the Dixie State Tournament against Northwest Nazarene and Stanislaus State. They had losses to St. Cloud State and Simon Fraser.
DBU is 2-3 on the season with a win over UC-Colorado Springs, but losses to Colorado Mines, Northern State and Colorado Mesa at the Colorado Mines Classic last weekend. The Patriots picked up a win over East Central this week.
Midwestern State is 2-2 after splitting at the Pittsburg State Gorilla Classic last week. The Mustangs had wins against Western State and Southwest Baptist, but lost to both Pittsburg State and Missouri Western.
Henderson State is 2-2, as well after hosting their own tournament last weekend. The Lady Reddies had wins over Mississippi College and St. Edwards, but lost to No. 20 Texas A&M Commerce and UT-Tyler.
