Bethany, Okla. - The Missouri Southern women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm in a back-and-forth battle on the grounds of Wes Harmon Field inside the Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex Friday evening.
The Lions (0-1) outshot the Crimson Storm (1-0) 7-5 in the first half and then 10-3 in the second half towards consistent pressure on the opposing goalkeeper for entire 90 minutes of action (17-8). SNU scored the lone goal in the 59th minute.
Junior forward Sarah Tatum led the squad with five shots and three on goal followed by sophomore defender Meredith Belrose who attempted three shots while three others each had two.
Freshman goalkeeper Riley Laver made five saves in her MSSU debut between the posts which included back-to-back diving plays to keep the Storm scoreless going into halftime.
The women's soccer team continues to Kansas City for a neutral site match with No. 25 Minnesota State - Mankato at 1:00 pm inside the Swope Park Soccer Village.
