(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

Missouri Southern cross country runners Gidieon Kimutai and Juliana Determan have been named the MIAA Men's and Women's Cross Country Runners of the Week as the league announced the awards today.

Kimutai won the Southern Stampede this past weekend and led the Lions to the team crown. He traversed the 8K course in 24:04.1 for a 17-second victory over the nearest competitor. His time also marked a new personal best at the distance, an improvement of 43 seconds from his showing last year when he finished second.

Determan led the way for the Lions at the Stampede. She crossed the line on the 5k course in a time of 17:34.6 to place fourth. Her performance also helped the Lions to a third-place finish in the team standings. Determan was the top MIAA runner in the event.

The Lions will be back in action on October 5 as Southern competes at the Chile Pepper Festival at Arkansas.
