Missouri Southern volleyball sweeps opening matches in Southern Invitational

The Missouri Southern volleyball team swept its opening two matches of the 2019 Holiday Inn and Comfort Suites Southern Invitational Friday, sweeping Black Hills State and defeating Colorado State-Pueblo three sets to one.

Southern (2-0) was led offensively in match one by Morgan Nash as she had 11 kills and 12 digs for the double-double and a .348 attack average. Janelle Brehm had ten kills and seven digs, while Kylee Kaaihue had 39 assists. Emalee Lowe had 16 dgs in the match. Alyssa Dias had eight kills and five blocks, hitting .389.

Southern won by the set scores of 25-18, 25-19 ad 25-16. BHSU (1-1) was led by seven kills each from Peyton Bodermann and Laurel Lech.










Match two saw the Lions drop set one 22-25, but come from behind to win the final three sets by the scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-23. Brehm led the way with 20 kills and 18 digs for a double-double, while adding four blocks. Diaz had 11 kills and a .579 attack average, while Kaaihue dished out 46 assists. Brooklyn McCain had 18 digs, while Lowe added 12.

The Lions will be back in action today with two matches against Cameron at 1 pm and Southwestern Oklahoma at 7 pm.
