Sophomore forward Bailey Belcher led Missouri Southern Lions with two goals while outshooting the East Central Tigers 17-16, buy fell 4-3 in a double-overtime thriller inside Fred G. Hughes Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Belcher led off all scoring after beating the Tigers' goalkeeper one-on-one to put the Lions (1-3) in front 1-0 in the first two and a half minute of the match.
The Tigers (2-2) responded with a goal of their own ten yards outside the box in the 36th minute and head into halftime at a 1-1 tie. ECU added another goal ten minutes into the second half to take a lead, but it only lasted a few seconds as the Lions went back down the field and Belcher scored her second goal of the game to tie the match up at 2-2.
Twenty minutes later, the Lions regained the lead after freshman defender Ashton Manwill headed a corner kick from senior defender Brianna Smith past the goalkeeper (3-2).
ECU came back with a goal in the final seven minutes of regulation to force overtime at 3-3 and went on to secure the victory in the second overtime period on a header towards the goal.
The Lions look to rebound on the road against Missouri Western at 6:00 pm on Friday before facing nationally ranked Central Missouri on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
