The Nationally-ranked Missouri Southern men's and women's cross country teams will be in action this weekend as the Lions play host to the 30th-annual Southern Stampede ran at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.
The men come into the event ranked sixth and the women are 18th in Division II after both teams swept both the individual and team titles in their first meet of the season at Southwest Baptist. Gidieon Kimutai and Julianna Determan won the individual titles and were both honored with MIAA Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors.
The men dominated at SBU as the Lions had four of the top seven runners, six in the top 12 and seven in the top 23. Southern scored 25 points as a team, 42 points in front of second-place Central Missouri. The women had four runners in the top 13 and five in the top 20. Southern won the team title over Southwest Baptist by three points with a score of 45.
The field of collegiate runners will consist of more than 1,200 entries. The men's race will feature just one Division I team in Oral Roberts, while the women will see three Division I teams compete in ORU, Arkansas and Missouri State.
