MSSU volleyball opens MIAA play Tuesday at Pittsburg State

The Missouri Southern volleyball team will open up MIAA play tomorrow night as the Lions travel to Pittsburg State to take on the Gorillas. First serve from John Lance Arena is slated for 6 pm.

Southern (6-3) went 3-2 this past week with a thrilling mid-week win at home over Drury, before going 2-2 at the Dallas Baptist Tournament. The Lions picked up wins over Midwestern State and Colorado Christian at DBU.

Five set matches have been the norm for the Lions as of late as five of the last six matches have went the full five sets with Southern winning three of those matches. The Lions lead Division II in total team digs and total team attacks, while ranking third in total kills, fourth in total assists and 11th in total blocks. Individually, Janelle Brehm leads Division II in total attacks, while ranking 11th in total kills and 14th in attacks per set.








Morgan Nash picked up her second triple double of the season this past weekend and she ranks second nationally in that category.

Pittsburg State (5-3) opened up the season going 4-0 at their own tournament with wins over East Central Midwestern State, Western Colorado and Southwest Baptist. The Gorillas went 1-3 at Lubbock Christian's tournament this past weekend with a won over Black Hills State, but losses to LCU, Dixie State and UT-Permian Basin.
