The Missouri Southern Volleyball team won a thriller tonight against visiting Drury as the Lions took out the Panthers in five sets. Individual set scores were 13-25, 25-15, 21-25, 25-22 and 18-16.
The Lions (4-1) split the first four sets with the Panthers and trailed 8-7 at the turn in the fifth. From there, however, Southern pushed and opened up a 10-9 lead, forcing a Drury (1-4) timeout.
The Panthers and Lions traded points for most of the rest of the set, before back-to-back blocks from the Lions ended the match. Janelle Brehm and Makenzie Fa'amausili-Cacoulidis teamed up for the first block, while Alicia Pickett and CC Pollard had the second.
Brehm led the way for the Lions as she recorded 25 kills and 16 digs to go with five blocks. Morgan Nash dished out 42 assists and added 15 digs, while Shaylon Sharp had 12 digs of her own. Emalee Lowe had 19 digs, while Pickett added seven blocks.
The Lions had 11 team blocks and held Drury to a .128 attack average.
Southern will be back in action this weekend as the Lions travel to Dallas Baptist to compete in the DBU Patriot Classic on Friday and Saturday.
