Kansas City, Mo. - The Missouri Southern women's soccer team wrapped up opening weekend with a 6-0 loss to the No. 25 Minnesota State Mavericks inside Children's Mercy Victory Field Sunday afternoon.

The Lions (0-2-0) took a combined eight shots on the day as junior Carina Calderon and sophomores Bailey Belcher and Courtney Marten all tied for two shots apiece. Calderon recorded two shots on goal to lead the squad.

Both freshman goalkeepers Riley Laver and Alex Dimel saw action in-between the posts for a half of play each, making a combined seven saves on 26 shots faced.

The Mavericks (1-0-0) struck first in the opening two minutes of the match via a crossing pass to a forward that shot it directly in front of the goal. They went on to score three more goals in the first and added two in the second.

Southern returns to Joplin for its home opener this Friday at 6:00 pm against the Drury Panthers.
