MSSU cross country sweeps MIAA weekly awards

Kansas City, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's and women's cross country programs swept the MIAA Men's nad Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week Awards the league announced today.

Both Julianna Determan and Gidieon Kimutai won the individual titles at Southwest Baptist this week as the Lions won both the men's and women's team titles, as well.

Determan won the individual championship at the SBU Invitational. She traversed the 5k course with a time of 18:03.80. Determan's performance also helped the Lions claim the team title for the SBU Invitational. Last season, she place in the top 20 at the MIAA Championships.








Kimutai won the individual title at the SBU Invitational to start the season. He traversed the 7k course in a time of 20:04.43 for the top spot. His performance also helped the Lions earn team title at the SBU Invitational. Last season, Kimutai won the 2018 MIAA men's cross country individual title and helped MSSU to the MIAA team title.

The Lions are back in action next week as Southern plays host to the 30th annual Southern Stampede on the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.
