(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

The seventh-ranked Missouri Southern men's cross country team, as well as Ashlee Kuykendall will be in action this Saturday at the 2018 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships hosted by Slippery Rock University and the City of Pittsburgh.

The men will kickoff the 10k race at 11 am, while Kuykendall will run in the women's 6k race at 12:15 pm. All times are Eastern.

The Southern men are coming off an MIAA and NCAA Central Region Championship. Southern also had the individual champion at both races in freshman Gidieon Kimutai. Head Coach Jamie Burnham was named the MIAA and NCAA Central Region Coach of the Year, while Kimutai was the Central Region Male Athlete of the Year.

The Lions scored 55 points as a team, the lowest point total of a Southern Cross Country Team at a regional (56 when the Lions won in 2009). Kimutai was the third NCAA Regional Champion in the last four years and the fourth MIAA Champion in the last five years for the program. The MIAA Championship was the 11th in a 19-year span.

Kuykendall is making her first appearance in the NCAA Championships. She finished fifth at both the NCAA Regional and MIAA Championships, earning All-MIAA and All-Region honors in the process. Kuykendall qualified as an individual, being one of the top two individuals not part of a qualifying team.
