NCAA Division II Central Region Cross County meet set for Saturday at MSSU

The Missouri Southern cross country program will play host to the 2018 NCAA Division II Central Region Meet this Saturday morning at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.

The men's race will begin at 10 am, while the women will run at 11:15 am.

Coming into the race, the Southern men are ranked 13th nationally after its 11th MIAA Championship in the last 19 years two weeks ago. The Lions will be joined by 9th-ranked Sioux Falls and 14th-ranked Augustana as the lone ranked men's teams at the meet.

Sioux Falls was the number one ranked team in the region this past week, followed by the Lions at No. 2, then Augustana, Nebraska-Kearney, MSU-Moorhead, Fort Hays State, Minnesota State, East Central, Southwest Baptist and Minnesota-Duluth. Sioux Falls won the NSIC meet, while ECU won the GAC title.



The Lions' Gidieon Kimutai was the 2018 MIAA Champion and was the fourth individual title for the Lions in the last five years.

On the women's side, five ranked teams come into the meet, led by 4th-ranked University of Mary. Augustana is 8th, while Pittsburg State is 11th. Oklahoma Baptist comes in ranked 15th, while Southwest Baptist is 17th.

Mary led the region again this week, while Augustana followed at No. 2 in the latest regional rankings. Pittsburg State was third, followed by Oklahoma Baptist, Southwest Baptist, Missouri Southern, Minnesota State, Harding, East Central and Sioux Falls. Mary won the NSIC Championship, while Pittsburg State won the MIAA and Oklahoma Baptist won the GAC.

Ashlee Kuykendall finished fifth individually for the Lions at the MIAA meet.
