Wichita, Kan. - The Missouri Southern women's basketball team got its first taste of five-on-five in an Exhibition with Wichita State as the Lions fell 62-49 inside Charles Koch Arena Thursday evening.
Lions' senior guard Chelsey Henry led with 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting. Junior guard Destiny Cozart added ten points and six rebounds while 6'2 forward Jordan Schoenberger poured in ten points as well.
Guards Chasidee Owens and Krista Clark each recorded six points in a combined 40 minutes of action as Owens also grabbed six rebounds in the process for the green and gold.
The Shockers were led in scoring by Carla Bremaud (13) and Bastin Seraphine (11). Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage added a game-high ten rebounds to go with eight points in the win.
Southern went shot for shot with the Shockers early on to force a 15-15 score at the end of period number one after falling behind by five (11-6) at the halfway point. WSU responded with a 14-0 run in the final five minutes of period number two to head into halftime up 33-20.
Coming out of halftime, MSSU cut the lead to eight in the first two minutes of third period, but would not gain any more ground as the Shockers extended their advantage back up to 13 to close out the exhibition.
The Lions open the 2018 regular season in Shawnee, Oklahoma for a pair of contests against Oklahoma Baptists next Friday at 7:30 pm and No. 20 Southwestern Oklahoma State in a Saturday battle at 4:00 pm as part of the Great American Conference (GAC)/Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Challenge.
