Missouri Southern sophomore post Cam Martin has been named the MIAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week as announced by the league office today.
Martin helped the Lions to a 3-0 week in Puerto Rico with wins against UPR-Rio Piedras, Minot State and Minnesota Crookston. For the week, he averaged 20.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game. Martin shot 76 percent from the field, 60 percent from long-range and 70 percent from the free throw line.
He started the week with a 21-point performance against UPR-Rio Piedras, going 7-for-8 from the field and 7-for-11 from the free throw line. Martin had a 24-point, 13-rebound game against Minot State and capped the week with 16 points and nine rebounds, going 6-for-7 from the field and 3-for-4 from the three-point line in a win over Minnesota Crookston.
This season, Martin ranks fifth in scoring nationally, while ranking eighth in field goal percentage. He leads the MIAA in both those categories, as well.
Martin and the Lions will be in action this week on Thursday night as Southern plays host to Baptist Bible at 7 pm inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
