San Juan, P.R. – The Missouri Southern women's basketball team closed out the 2018 Puerto Rico Classic with a 70-62 victory over Pontifical Catholic on the campus of the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions (4-2) started off down 5-2, but then went on a 13-1 run concluding on a spot-up 3-pointer by sophomore Krista Clark for three of her nine points on the day on a pass from sophomore Zoe Campbell to take a 15-6 advantage at the 2:20 mark in the first period.
Senior guard Chelsey Henry was the only Lion to finish in double-digits with ten points. Chasidee Owensadded nine points and season-high 15 rebounds while Campbell grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds and poured in seven in the win.
Sibet Castro scored 17 points to lead PCU on a 23-6 run that cut the deficit to eight after MSSU went up 25 points in the opening minutes of the final period.
The Lions return home for a non-conference match up versus Rogers State on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 1:30 pm.
