Fast start fuels PSU women to 79-57 win over University of Arkansas-Fort Smith

The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team rushed out to a 19-4 first quarter lead and rolled to a 79-57 victory over the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith Saturday (Nov 17).

Athena Alvarado and Shelby Lopez each posted double-doubles for the Gorillas (3-1). Alvarado finished the game with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Shelby had 15 points and 10 rebounds.



Kaylee DaMitz added 15 points, four rebounds and eight assists as Pitt State shot 55.4 percent from the field in the game (31-56).

UAFS (0-4) got a game-high 19 points from Ellie Lehne, while Mariah Green chipped in with 16 points and six assists. The Lions shot just 31.9 percent from the floor in the game (23-72), but UAFS benefited from 17 offensive rebounds in the contest.
