Southem men build big halftime lead, coast to 91-79 win over RIo Piedras

San Juan, Puerto Rico -- The Missouri Southern men's basketball team trailed by as much as six points in the first half, but the Lions heated up and eventually led by 23 at the half en route to a 91-79 win at University of Puerto Rico - Rio Piedras today.

Four players scored in double-figures for the Lions (3-1) led by 23 points from Kinzer Lambert. Lambert added eight rebounds, going 6-of-12 from the field and 3-of-six from long-range, while making 8-of-11 of his free throws. Cam Martin had 21 points on 7-of-8 shooting, while Elyjah Clark scored 17, including going 4-of-9 from the three-point line. Enis Memic had 10 points off the bench.

UPRRP was led by 35 points from Josue Erazo.





Southern trailed early as Rio Piedras shot extremely well to start the game. The Lions, however, lit up from long-range and pushed its lead to eight (36-28) with just six minutes left in the half. The Lions would lead 54-31 at the break. The Lions shot 70 percent from the field in the first half.

Rio Piedras out scored the Lions in the second half 48-37, but the first half deficit was too much to overcome.

Southern shot 55 percent from the field in the game and 58 percent from long-range.

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow as Southern will take on Minot State at 11 am CST.
