San Juan, PR -- Cam Martin and Kinzer Lambert both scored over 20 points as the Lions soared past Minot State, 76-57 today in day two of the Puerto Rico Classic.
Martin scored 24 and Lambert scored 22, as Martin added 13 rebounds and Lambert pulled down eight. Martin also added three blocks as he went 9-of-13 from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Elyjah Clark scored 13 points and Parker Jennings had 11 points as Jennings hit three 3-pointers on the afternoon.
The Lions (4-1) shot 54 percent from the field and out rebounded Minot (4-3) 46-35, including a 15-5 advantage on the offensive boards that led to a 17-4 margin in second-chance points.
MSU was led by 16 points from Dorian Aluyi. Kyle Beisch scored 14 points and added ten rebounds.
Southern trailed 7-6 in the first three minutes of the game, but the Lions stormed ahead and never looked back. Southern led by ten at the break (35-25) and out scored the Beaveras 41-32 in the second half.
The Lions' bench out scored Minot 14-8 and Southern forced 13 Minot State turnovers, leading to 13 points, while the Lions limited their mistakes to just six turnovers.
Southern will finish up the tournament tomorrow morning as the Lions will take on Minnesota Crookston at 11 am CDT.
