Emporia, Kan. -- The Missouri Southern women's cross country team placed third and Ashlee Kuykendall was fifth as the Lions competed at the 2018 MIAA Cross Country Championships hosted by Emporia State at Jones Park.
Kuykendall crossed the 6k finish line in a time of 22:08.9 to earn All-MIAA status. Julianna Determan finished 16th in a time of 23:05.6 to also earn All-MIAA honors.
Sarah Usher was 23rd in a time of 23:26.6, while Alice Evans placed 31st in a time of 23:42.8. Kelie Henderson was 39th in a time of 23:53.5, while Gabrielle Hill and Abbi Rogers placed 43rd and 44th, respectively finishing in times of 23:04.4 and 24:05.3.
Mady Gepford was 48th in a time of 24:25.6, while Danielle Prince placed 58th in a time of 24:51.3.
Pittsburg State won the team title with 26 points, while Southwest Baptist was second with 51 points. The Lions were third with 114 points, followed by Nebraska-Kearney, Fort Hays State, Washburn, Northwest Missouri, Missouri Western, Lindenwood, Central Missouri, Central Oklahoma, Emporia State and Lincoln to round out the team scores.
Southern will be back in action on November 17 when the Lions play host to the NCAA Division II Central Region Meet ran at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.
