Assistant coach hired for MSSU softball

(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

Missouri Southern softball coach Hallie Blackney has announced the hiring of Jakki Schneider as her new assistant coach for the Lions softball team.

"I knew I wanted to bring someone into our program who exemplified loyalty, positivity, a championship mindset, and the ability to be a mentor/role model to our student-athletes," Blackney said. "I believe Coach Schneider is all of that and more. Not only is she familiar with this area, but she was also a champion performer within the MIAA. There are a lot of great things happening within our program right now, and I have full confidence that she will only enhance it."

Schneider has spent the previous two seasons as the head softball coach at Joplin High School. Prior to that, she was a member of the coaching staff at Kickapoo High School, serving as a pitching coach, while also serving as a JV coach.

Schneider also served as a student assistant coach at her alma mater, Central Missouri for one season.

A native of Nixa, Mo., Schneider graduated from Nixa High School, before going on to star at the University of Central Missouri. She holds 28 career and season records at Central, including games played, at bats, batting average, runs scored, hits, doubles, home runs, total bases, RBIs, slugging percentage, appearances, games started, innings pitched, walks, strikeouts, strikeouts per seven innings, and wins.

She was a three-time All-MIAA performer for the Jennies, while also picking up All-Region honors as a senior. She was named the Dr. Peggy Martin Award Winner as the top senior female student-athlete at Central Missouri. She helped the Jennies to a 49-16 record as a senior, including an MIAA Title, the Central Region Title and a trip to the Division II World Series.

"I am very thankful to Coach Blackney for giving me the opportunity to coach alongside her," Schneider said. "I look forward to working with the student-athletes in the Missouri Southern softball program to help them become one of the premier programs in the MIAA."
