Missouri Southern sophomore Ashlee Kuykendall placed fifth and the Missouri Southern women placed sixth as the Lions competed at the 2018 NCAA Division II Central Region Championship today at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.
With the finish, Kuykendall qualifies for the National Meet which will take place on December 1 in Pittsburgh, Penn.
Kuykendall earns All-Region honors, as well, for her performance, up from a 56th place finish a year ago. She traversed the 6k course in a time of 21:26.7.
Julianna Determan was 38th in a time of 22:37.6, while Sarah Usher was 43rd in a time of 22:49.7. Allice Evans was 77th in a time of 23:22.0, while Mady Gepford, Gabriel Hill and Kelie Henderson placed 95th, 98th and 102nd.
The University of Mary won the team title for the third-straight year with 29 team points. Augustana was second with 64 points, while Pittsburg State and Oklahoma Baptist tied for third. Mary, Augustana and PSU will all qualify for the National Meet as the Gorillas won the tiebreaker with OBU. Southwest Baptist placed fifth, followed by the Lions, Minnesota-Duluth, Fort Hays State, Minnesota State and East Central to round out the top ten team scores.
Kuykendall is the first Lion to qualify for Nationals since the 2014 season when the Lions qualified as a team.
The National Meet will be on December 1 in Pittsburg, Penn. as part of the Division II Fall Festival.
