Warrensburg, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team got eight kills from Shaylon Sharp and six from Janelle Brehm as the Lions fell three sets to none tonight at 15th-ranked Central Missouri. Individual set scores were 11-25, 15-25 and 15-25.
Southern (3-24, 3-14 MIAA) got eight kills and four digs from Sharp, while Brehm recorded six kills and 14 digs. Kylee Kaaihue dished out 20 assists, and Morgan Nash had 16 digs.
Central (23-6, 13-4 MIAA) was led by Rylee Neigenfind with ten kills. Ally Offerdahl had 24 assists and both Carly Offerdahl and Kylie Hhlen had 10 digs.
Central opened up a 6-0 lead to start the first set, but the Lions clawed back to get within two (7-5) after a block from Alicia Pickett and Sharp. That would be as close as the Lions would get, as Central closed out the set on an 18-6 run.
Set two saw the Lions get as close as six (14-8) midway through the set, but UCM wouldn't let up and took the second set.
An ace by Pickett in the third set tied the set at six, but the Jennies went on a 9-2 run to lead 15-9 and closed the match from then out.
The Lions close out the season tomorrow evening as Southern travels to Lindenwood for a 6 pm match inside Hyland Arena.
