Missouri Southern sophomore distance runner Gidieon Kimutai has been named the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Men's Runner of the Week as announced by the association today.

Kimutai (Eldoiet, Kenya,) wins his second national award after he won his third event of the year this past week, taking the individual title at the Lewis University Crossover. Kimutai has won every event he's entered this season after taking home the title at SBU and at the Southern Stampede.

The sophomore completed a wet and muddy 8K course in 25:07.2 for a one second victory over Tanner Chada of Grand Valley State, who was the National Athlete of the Week on September 30.

The Lions and Kimutai will be back in action on October 26 when they host the 2019 MIAA Cross Country Championships at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.
