The Missouri Southern basketball programs will be in Kansas City this week as the MIAA Basketball Media Day will be Wednesday, October 9 from the College Basketball Experience next to the Sprint Center.
Southern coaches Ronnie Ressel and Jeff Boschee will be at the podium at 10 am as the third group of coaches to go in the program. The morning session will open with statements from Commissioner Mike Racy and then at 9:30 am, Northeastern State will open the floor followed by Nebraska-Kearney. The Lions and Pittsburg State will conclude the first part of the morning session. After a break, Missouri Western, Northwest Missouri and Central Missouri will conclude the morning session.
Rogers State, Central Oklahoma, Lincoln and Emporia State will open the afternoon session and after a short break, Washburn, Newman and Fort Hays State will conclude the session.
The Southern men finished the season 25-8 last year and went to the Sweet 16. The Lions return all five starters including preseason National Player of the Year candidate Cam Martin. The men have been picked as high as a preseason No. 6 pick nationally by the Sporting News.
The women went 14-16 last season and Southern return eight players that played significant time or started games a year ago. Chasidee Owens started all 30 games and averaged 11.5 points per game, while leading the team with 5.9 rebounds per contest.
