Kearney, Neb. - The Missouri Southern women's soccer team recorded its first tie of the season (1-1) against the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers inside Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field Friday afternoon.
After the Lopers took a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute of the first period, the Lions (2-10-1, 1-4-1 MIAA) roared back to tie it up at 1-1 with five minutes left after sophomore forward Courtney Marten crossed the ball off the head of one defender to freshman forward Samantha White.
White beat a Kearney defender for control of the loose ball directly in front of the goal and took a shot off her right foot in-between two defenders toward the high-left corner for the score.
Senior Jessica Edwards and junior Carina Calderon each led the squad with three shots while juniors Meredith Belrose and Sarah Tatum added two shots a piece. Freshman goalkeeper Riley Laver made four saves on nine total shot attempts by the Lopers (1-6-6, 0-2-4 MIAA) in 110 minutes played.
