MSSU volleyball falls to Nebraska-Kearney in three sets

The Missouri Southern volleyball team picked up a double-double from Janelle Brehm as the Lions took on third-ranked Nebraska-Kearney today, falling to the Lopers in three sets. Individual set scores were 19-25, 25-27 and 15-25.

Southern (11-10, 4-7 MIAA) was paced by Brehm as she had 11 kills and 17 digs. Morgan Nash had 18 assists and eight digs, while Alyssa Diaz posted four blocks. Brooklynn McCain and Cassie Walton had 16 and 12 digs, respectively.

UNK (20-0, 11-0 MIAA) was led by MK Wolfe with nine kills.








The two teams traded points in the first set, before a 3-0 run from the Lopers gave UNK a 17-14 lead and forced a Lions' timeout. UNK would go on to score eight of the final 13 points to take the set.

The second set featured 11 ties and six lead changes as both teams traded points until UNK went up 16-13 midway through. The Lions fought back and went on a 5-1 run to lead 18-17 and force a UNK timeout. UNK led 22-19 and forced a Southern timeout, but the Lions again stormed back and tied the set at 23 to force a Lopers' timeout. The set was tied at 24 and 25, but UNK scored the final two points to take the set.

Set three was all Lopers as UNK led from start to finish.

Southern will be back in action on Tuesday night as the Lions play host to Newman at 6 pm inside Young Gymnasium.
