MSSU to play host to MIAA Cross Country Championships Saturday

(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

The Missouri Southern cross country program will play host to the 2019 MIAA Cross Country Championships this Saturday at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course on campus.

The races will begin at 10 am with the women's 10k race, while the men's 8k will kick off at 11 am.

The Southern men come into the race as the top-ranked team in the race and the defending MIAA Champs. The Lions are ranked 6th this week in the latest coaches poll and Northwest Missouri State is ranked 12th. The Lions won last year's MIAA Championships in dominating fashion, scoring 31 points to second-place Nebraska-Kearney's 101.

The Lions won their first two events of the season with a win at SBU and another in the Southern Stampede, while finishing second at the highly competitive Lewis University Crossover two weeks ago. That meet at Lewis featured 11 nationally-ranked teams and the Lions finished second behind only 4th-ranked Grand Valley State.

On the women's side, Pittsburg State has won the past two MIAA Cross Country Championships. The Southern women finished third last year and have been nationally ranked for a good portion of the season. The Lions won the MIAA Championship last in 2014 and won the title six times from 2006-2014.

Live results for the event, as well as course maps and a Championship Program are available above in the story links.
