MSSU volleyball to entertain Pittsburg State

The Missouri Southern volleyball team will play host to Pittsburg State tomorrow night as the Lions and Gorillas tangle inside Young Gymnasium. First serve is slated for 6 pm.

The Lions (9-9, 2-6 MIAA) are coming off a 1-1 week that saw Southern nearly knock off fifth-ranked Washburn, then sweep Emporia State.

Morgan Nash picked up her fourth triple-double of the season with 12 kills, 12 digs and 22 assists against Washburn. Nash currently ranks fourth nationally in that category. Janelle Brehm is 12th nationally in total attacks, while leading the MIAA and Alicia Pickett leads the league in total blocks. Brehm is second in the league in total kills and attacks per set, while Pickett ranks third in blocks per set. Nash is second in the MIAA in aces.








Brehm leads team with a 3.11 kill per set average while also pulling down 3.52 digs per set. Emalee Lowe leads the team with 4.03 digs per set, while Brooklynn McCain has 3.84 digs per set. Kylee Kaaihue has a team-high 9.38 assists per set, while Pickett is averaging just under a block per set (0.96).

The Lions lead the MIAA in total blocks and total attacks, while ranking 16th nationally in total attacks. Southern ranks second in the MIAA in digs and assists, while ranking 20th nationally in digs.

Pitt State (9-8, 4-4 MIAA) is led offensively by Erika Ivkov with 3.16 kills per set, while Morgan Henning averages 2.91 kills per set. The Gorillas employ a two-setter system with Brianna Richard (6.33 aps) and Laura Willoughby (5.46 aps) leading the way. Marissa Bates has a team-high 3.63 digs per set, while Ivkov is averaging 3.35 digs per set.
