(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

The Missouri Southern women's soccer team got to within two after senior Jessica Edwards scored in the 72nd minute of play, but fell short to Emporia State 3-1 inside Fred G Hughes Stadium Friday afternoon.

The Lions (2-12-1, 1-6-1 MIAA) registered 14 total shots on the night with one goal coming after sophomore Bailey Belcher launched the ball over the defense to Edwards who then kicked it over the goalkeeper's head.

Freshman Samantha White and junior Sarah Tatum led the squad with three shots each, while junior Rylie Johnson and Belcher provided two apiece.

Goalkeeper Luz Galindo went 90 minutes in-between the posts and made six saves in the loss.

The Hornets (10-3-1, 5-1-2 MIAA) scored the first goal in the 15th minute of the first period on a header after a corner kick was taken, followed by numerous hits before the ball found the back of the net. They would add two more goals for a 3-0 lead at halftime and then hold on for the victory

MSSU is back inside Fred G. Hughes Stadium Sunday afternoon against Washburn at 1:00 pm.
