Romeoville, Ill. - The No. 7-ranked Missouri Southern men's cross country team answered the challenge and placed second in a loaded field today at the Lewis University Crossover as Gideon Kimutai won his third-straight event.
The Lions were bested only by No. 4 ranked Grand Valley State as Southern defeated nine other ranked opponents today.
Kimutai traversed the 8k course today in a time of 25:07.2, one second in front of his nearest competitor. He has won every event he has ran this season.
Ryan Riddle placed sixth in a time of 25:24.3, while Nickson Kiptoo was 34th in a time of 26:06.6 and Kevin Koester was 42nd in a time of 26:14.3, giving the Lions four runners in the top 42. Cody Berry was 60th in a time of 26:24.9, while Josh Webb placed 87th in a time of 26:42.4.
Michael Shanahan was 107th in a time of 26:52.8 and Nathan Painter placed 133rd in a time of 27:04.8.
Grand Valley State won the event with a total of 87 points, while the Lions were second with 114. Augustana placed third, followed by Southern Indiana, Alabama-Huntsville, Sioux Falls, Cal State San Marcos, Colorado Christian, Walsh and Saginaw Valley rounded out the top ten team scores.
The Lions will be back in action on October 26 as Southern plays host to the 2019 MIAA Cross Country Championships at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.
